Presently in Bailey, CO and used to solo fly fishing for trout by float tube or wading in the creeks and streams but I'll be relocating to Odessa in what is appearing to be about May.  All I know about the area is it appears flat and dry with no water in sight.  Anyone in the Odessa/Midland area care to do some email exchanges and share what you know about fishing in Western TX with the final intent on getting some line's wet once I get down there?

    Howdy and welcome to Texas.

You're going to be a little late for the annual meet this year, but there is always next year. let me know if you ever in the San Antonio area, perhaps we can hook up and drown some worms around here.

Good luck in West-Texas, don't know about any fishing there.

Come and check us out, as well as the state site that I have posted below.

Thanks for the links, I suspect I'll be in the Austin area 3 or 4 times a year for Hogs.  Looking at the map I found 3 lakes within 200 miles of Odessa and a couple of small ponds in city limits.  Considering it's 100miles round trip for me to go to work or 180miles round trip to get to Bass Pro Shops I think those 3 lakes may be livable.  I did notice there seems to be some fetish with stocking Trout in the ponds down there.  That was rather dissapointing,  I am so tired or those things.  I grew up with Bluegills, Walleye, Bass and Perch.  I haven't had any really good warmwater fishing for along time.  Personal preference are Cats with Bass a distinct second.

    You're welcome!

Maybe you'll be able to make it to our annual meet next year. Check our club's website, http://south-texasnafcchapter.lefor...om/forum/, for more info, such as time and place.

Hope to meet you some time and fish for some Cats or Bass.

The trout thing is very dissapointing to me as well. They stock them here in San Antonio at least once a year, but I refuse to fish for those in warm waters. Yet, there are a few locations where they do spawn in the wild, but they are hard to find and get to in many cases.

Good luck and hope to see you on our website soon.

I was born in Texas and lived there most of my life, but now transplanted in Minnesota.  What a culture shock.  You're right about Odessa being flat.  Not much there at all.  There are some small bass lakes around that might not be on the map.  Just talk with the locals.  You might want to pick up hunting.
There's lots more of that around Odessa.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

i stay in san angelo from oct to dec each year and there are 3 lakes there.  right now one is to low to launch a boat, one(twin buttes) is low but has fairly good fishing, and nasworthy has plenty of water, but the least fish.  from odessa it is not to far to riodosa,n.m. and the trout fishing will be good there after it warms up.  i am on the coast now where it is warmer and the fish were biting pretty good yesterday.

Believe me XTexan, I would much rather be headed to Minnesota. I grew up in Wisconsin and live at 9000' now so the summers are gonna kill me, I'm much more acclimated to summers in the low 80's and winters in the 20's so I'll probably be the only one with an RV A/C unit mounted to the roof of a Dodge Ram  I doubt the stock A/C will be able to keep the cab in the 60's.  I'm really looking forward to losing the Trout and being able to hunt for more than Elk and Deer tho.  I've learned no matter where you go there's something good, you just gotta look for it and it didn't take me long to find those in TX.
