I was wondering if anyone knew of any bass tournaments on small lakes around east Texas. My neice is 7 years old and wants fish a tournament with me but the only ones I know of and usually do are on the bigger lakes (i.e. Lake Fork, Ray Hubbard). Her mom on the other hand doesn't want her out on the bigger lakes so I figured I would start her on a smaller one like I was taught on. I have looked online but haven't found any on a small lake. I have seen them for lake Tyler and Palestine but not sure if her mom would let her go out on those. Please leave a post or e-mail me at c8416@aol.com">pc8416@aol.com . Any info would be great. Thanks. |

pc8416: I came across your post 'bout this ? By the way, I'm San Anto JCSr. A.K.A. "VATO LOCO"* FROM "ALAMO TOWN"*, San Antonio. You stated that you've checked web-sites, I don't know if you've checked the T.P.W.D. web-site? Here's the Web-Addy if you need it. www.tpwd.state.tx.us click on this & it'll take you to the home pg. Then you look on the page & you'll see various catagories. Click on the 1 that says Fishing & Boating. When that pg. shows it also has various topics, click on anyone that you think may help W/info. Now there's a book; The Official Texas Lakes & Bays Fishing Atlas. It breaks down State Waters by region, N-S-E-W. Also provides info. on Maps, Hotspots, GPS, Roads, Ramps, Rules, Tides, Tournaments. I own 1 & it's been helpful when needed. It runs about $10.00. I got mine @ Academy Sports & Outdoors. FYI; I checked on lakes in East Tex. Didn't see any that are small, yet we sometimes have different definitions of small-med.-large. I hope that this info. is somewhat helpful to you. I just that site , It is early for them to be putting up anything now ....I did check into it last year & found out that most of their tourney are on small lakes like in State parks , You can not use anything bigger than a trolling motor no boats over 14 Ft ..... They are set up for people with things like Kakat Canoes 2 sitters like Bass Buster & people with that tube .... They where fishing lakes like Purtis Creek , Cleburne White Rock in Dallas ..... |

Thanks for the info, I will be going to academy to pick up that book. You never know it might be the saving grace in an upcoming big tournament. Yea I was looking for a lake that we could just use the trolling motor on. I figured that would be a good way to get her into it. The tournaments I did out in Az all the lakes we were on all we could do was use the trolling motor and they were decent size but you could get around with one (assuming there wasn't a huge wind, which happend a few times). I have a 16 ft boat so I will have check around and see if there are any restrictions. I just wanted something to show her the tournaments because she has heard about me doing them and when I told her about them she said that she would love to try one, and not much of a better thing to do with a child than to take them fishing and watch them catch their first big bass. Thanks again. |

pc8416: Just got off the phone W/ Sam Houston Ntnl. Forrest, phn.# 936-344-6205 which is the Agency that's in charge of Lake Conroe, Tx. You can also find info. on this E.-Tx.-Lk. in the book I posted about above. She stated that she'd never been asked that question??? Yet she checked & stated she believes that a 16'er can be launched there @ Scott's Ridge Public Ramp, & another ramp, (I've already 4gotten which-1)? Yet she connected me W/the officer that patrols Lk. Conroe. He wasn't in @ the time, so I left Mssg. & my # so he can call me back. FYI: Just in case you already didn't know. Recently, a Lk. Conroe Record-ShareLunker-Bass was caught @ this Lk. It was a 15.93#'s, 27"-long., & a girth of 22"*...It was caught on 1-30-'09. They also have a Jr-Angler-Tourny. @ this event back on 12-13-'08 a youngman caught The Record Jr-Angler State Record LM-Bass. Wt. 13.07#'s. The State Sponsor's a Share-Lunker Program, for Adults & Youths. T.P.W.D. has stocked Lk. Conroe W/ Florida-LM-Bass. This Lake has been rated #-24 of the Top 50 LM-Bass ever caught in Texas. I'll post any further info. when the officer answers the mssg. I left him. Until next time, "May Your Water Be Calm, & Your Stringer Full", "Take Care", L8r. If you are looking for a small lake you might check with Martin Creek State Park outside of Tatum, Texas. They us to have tourneys on Sat. and some on Sun. Henderson Bass Club, Tatum Bass Club, Longview Bass Club and Jefferson Bass Club. Not for sure where you are located. Hope this helps. |
