I have been fishing in Sabine Pass, and the Gulf of Mexico most of my life and i was wondering if there is anyone here who is fishing this area as well. The water has finally warmed up enough and the reds have turned on. I went this past Monday, Tues, and Wed. We had 12 monday 16 Tuesday and 7 Wed. I am normally more of a Flounder and Triple Tail fisherman but i couldn't pass this up we had a an experience of a life time, i wish i would have had a camera on us. We had been fishing all day with only 1 red in the boat. We traveled down to the jettys as a last resort and we saw a couple spots where birds were working but didn't have any luck. We were just about to leave when we saw a flock of seagulls working right on the wall. The tide was ripping in and the wind was about 15-20 mph blowing against the tide, it made the color muddy and the water rough. Then we saw what the birds were working on, the tide was bringing shirmp over the jetty wall, and then right when i was about to cast i saw a redfish tail trying to swim over the wall to try to get to those shrimp. We started casting chrome rattle traps and started reeling them in. It was the same thing for the next two days. My dad has been fishing this area for 50 years and he said he has never seen anything like it before. I would like to know if anyone else has done something similar to this and if there is a better bait to throw on a pile of rocks without getting hung up so often. Hope you enjoyed my post. I attached a picture from tuesday as well.
