Is there anyone out there who goes after Dog Fish?
You know those smallish sand shark?
As a teen I loved to night fish for them all of the time just for the fun of catching them!
They don't get very large maybe about 4-5' at the largest, but the fight is something to remember when the fish discovers it is heaqding into shallow water, and then it is all bets are off!
They will make a run up one side of the beach for about a hundred yards, and then turn and run yet another hundred yards past you going the other way, while all the time you are cranking as fast as you can to catch up all the slack line before the tug of war begins again.
They can be, and usually are very strong fighters, although at first you would swear they were a stergeon from the way they first begin their fight, but that illusion is very short lived!
It was not till the end of my days living on the beach that I learned they are pretty good to eat if they are bled and cleaned right away.
Roasted till the skin begins to bubble up and away from the firm hard white meat, this is when you rip off chunks of flesh and dip them in garlic butter offering you a grand treat while you are waiting for the next explosion as a fish takes your line for another run for your money!
