I'm learning where to go fish around Tacoma myself. Mostly I'm finding lakes south of Spanaway Lake where a friend wants to go fish. As I find them I will post them here. Also try American Lake. Read the News Tribune on Wed. and Thurs. Or go to www.thenewstribune.com/adventure/fishing/

South of Tacoma... I live in the Kapowsin area, not much more than a map dot really. There are some fantastic lakes out this way, trout, bass, catfish, pan fish etc. Travel south on Hwy 7... Spanaway lake (in Spanaway) just West of Hwy 7 on "Military" road accesed from a county park that is well marked. Further South, Silver lake... nearly to Eatonville, marked on Hwy 7 to get to camp ground (private) for access, boat rental available. If you head East on 304th st. from Hwy 7 you'll get to Kapowsin Lake. Lots of debris and stumps in this lake, it is an old valley that was flooded about 500 years ago, and used in the early part of the century for logging operations. Nearly completely un-improved shoreline, a small island, a marshy shallow, a 75 or more foot "deep bottom", and many other variables. This lake has claimed the lives of a few sportsmen in the last few years, so keep your safety gear close. I heard the story of an angler who tied off to a snag in the middle of the "deep bottom" area, and then rowed to tie the other end of his boat to a stump, but couldn't get to it. Upon looking back to the snag he found it had begun sinking when the tugging of the boat line pulled it off of the stump it had rested on for years. His pram nearly went to the bottom with it, but his knife was readilly available in the top of his well organized tackle box, and he cut himself loose. Just one of the many "close call" stories from this lake. There is a county boat launch on hte North end of the lake which 304th will lead you by once you go through the intersection that is adjacent to the tavern and store. On hwy 161 (Meridian) there are two more lakes South of 304th... Clear lake (never heard good stories from here) and Rainbow RV resort on Tanwax lake (mediocre from my experience). Hope this helps you find you some fun.
