Hey guys & gals, ole Dave has had a nasty fall, badly spraining his ankle and a hair-line fracture to his heel.  He will be out of commission for 6 weeks.  How about some of you folks giving that old man in Pepin a had finishing up his deck?  Right now he is bed ridden...

    Gee...thanks Pete

Don't worry about coming to help Jim...I'll still be able to get it done before the cold weather arrives.

I had taken off the rest of the top boards so that I could paint the 2x6 underframe....then when dry, screw on the painted top boards. I stepped on end of one of the 2x6's next to the steps and went straight down. I was lucky to have landed the way I did...as I easily could have a broken leg and more if things happened different.

I thought that the end of the 2x6 had spit out.....but when I looked close at it today..I see that the 3 nails that held the joint together had rusted to the point of being only half as thick as new.....so no wonder it gave way.

Ironically....I had planned on putting a couple of long screws in that one....AND an large metal L bracket.

Too late to save someone though

Swelling has gone down enough that I can actually feel a vein on each side of the ankle....but still at least 2 weeks away from putting any kind of weight on it. Worst part at the moment is the blood rushing into it when I go to stand on the crutches....and it starts aching, so I can only sit / stand for about 30 minutes max.
