I just completed browsing the forum like I usually do before I decide to post anything.  As far as speed goes, it seems to be just a bit faster, not overly significant.  I link with DSL with a 1.5M bit rate.  This may be why I don't see a huge difference.  I do not wait very long for pages to load anyway.

    Hi All,

It's come to my attention that somehow the other thread has become corrupted, and you haven't been able to see my last 2 posts, so I am starting a new one.

    Thanks!

Sorry, this one is a couple days old.  I won't re-post all the ones that you guys couldn't see, just the few that are still relevant.

    Hi All,

Just an update on the speed issue… we brought in a consultant to take a look at the new server set up, and he made some suggestions.  As some of you have no doubt noticed, the site was down in the early morning hours a couple times this week, and there may be a few more times its down between now and next week as well when we hope to have all the speed issues resolved.

Its actually not a server capacity issue as it may seem.  What the issue is, is as a club, we have several databases that have to talk to the website.  Typically a website only needs to feed on usernames and passwords.  But we have much more member data to communicate with to the site.  Specifically we have 3 large databases, and its supposed to feed all on the same server, which we did.  However, because they are all trying to pull data in the same location, they start bouncing in to each other, and spiking the CPU, causing the server to tax out at maximum capacity.

What we are doing (at the suggestion of the consultant) is segmenting the one large server in to 3, so each database can get the info it needs within its own home so to speak.  This will allow it to communicate with all the databases, but not allow it to bounce in to each other, and bonking out the server.  Hope this makes sense.

We are also working on updating the software to include the smiley’s (which we know pleases about half of you, and is dreadful to the other half) so that one is a lose-lose for us.  That update also includes a “jump to last post” option, as well as a few other things, but those seem to be the biggest requests.  We want to get the speed adjustments done first before taxing the servers any harder with an update to the software, and we still have testing to do of that one on the live server before rolling it out.

    Alright, enough boring you.

    Thanks all!

    Hi All,

Brief update:  We made some significant changes to the server configuration, and so far, it seems to have drastically improved the speed.  I would like to know if any of you are noticing the same thing?  Is it faster?  Slower?  About the same?

          Thanks All!

On another topic. I would really like to see an expanded member store section also.  I don't see anywhere that I can purchase hats, t-shirts, etc.  except for the flyer I got in the sign up packet and with the books.

I'm on cable internet and I now don't have any speed issues.  Bravo

Keep up the good improvements. I'm looking forward to more improvements, especially the chat room.

    A couple ideas,

Limit the number of post per page for each thread to around 20. The index for each section seem to come up pretty fast but the threads don`t. (they are better than they were) Seems like avatars, siggies, pics, and whatever else has to load for each page. Less post per page should open faster, 20 post per page should be more than enough to keep up with what is going on.

This one you will have to come with me and do. I will not be able to explaine it well but you should see it. This will get worse as time goes by and some threads get very long.

Lets go down to the mics section,  click on the good morning thread. Click on whatever the last page is, go to the last post and click respond. Here is the problem. If you look in the bottom left corner of your screen you will see "*.* images loading". I got 144 this morning. I usually press the stop button at this point and in a minute or so i can post. It would probabley take me a half hour to load all them images. Once you have the reply box up and ready to take info, scroll down. Anytime you respond to a post it reloads the WHOLE thread afterwards. If this site last, some of these threads are going to get very long, way to long for that to continue. Don`t know what kind of options you have here but the last 5 or 10 post is enough, and none would be a better option than all reloading.

The site was running a lot faster, threads were coming up way faster than they use to, till I tried to open this tread(I had to hit the refresh button because the site froze).  I have seen a definent improvement, I hope that the improvements continue.

Just to add to my earlier post,  I have found that when I click to open a topic and it stalls, if I hit the refresh button the page opens right up.

I have seen no significant speed improvements. I access from home on DSL, and from work on a T1. I don't guess it will matter for me. I am guessing the lag time that I have is probably my firewall on my router and my CPU.

Had not been on the site in a while because of the speed. Tried it tonight and it is great. Will start making it back to the site more often.

    Thanks

    It is slow.
My system is very fast but your forum is very slow.

I believe it is how you have your systems resources allocated. Get your admins to fix the issue and hope that you are not running this on a windows server.

    Good luck
