Which way is best for those of us who fish certain places consistently?
To have something lure wise tied on upon arriving at your fishing spot, or tie on something once there? <!--graemlin::confused:-->
I prefer over 95% of the time to have something tied to my line and ready to use, once I reach a spot to Crappie fish. <!--graemlin:;)-->
Or maybe just the lead head, and once arriving at a honey hole, observe the color of the water and then slip on a colored tube jig onto the lead head.
To me being ready can mean the difference between catching fish immediately upon arrival, a few maybe, or nothing at all.
My best example of this would be on a certain Reservior I fish in KS.
We motored over to some trees where we had caught Crappie many times. I had a leadhead and a 1 1/2 in. Natural colored Shimmy shad tied on and ready to use once there. My other line had a 1/8th oz leadhead tied on but no body attached. My fishing buddy Jack, still had nothing tied to his lines. We arrive, ease in quietly, and tie up. I reach for my rod and Shimmy Shad. I let out 6 1/2 ft. of line and ease it over the side, right over a brush pile under the boat.
As my line straightens up, I barely lower it, Whammo!! a hit, <!--graemlin::)--> and I hand pull my line in. A Crappie no.1, is in the boat and tossed into the livewell.
I repeat this over and over. By the time Jack finally got ready and let his line in the first time, I have 10 nice keeper Crappie in the live well. <!--graemlin::D-->
We ended up catching one fish each at that point. 11 fish to one.. <!--graemlin::eek:-->
I guess we caught all that was there willing to bite, or the Crappie had moved away for a while.
Would I/we have caught that many fish had I needed to tie on after arriving like Jack had done?.... I doubt it very seriously. <!--graemlin::o-->
I feel just having something on and ready upon pulling into a spot fished many times before, gives one an edge, as knowledge of the area and what fish will/had bit before comes into play.
Should the first offering not work, but having a lead head already tied on my line, I decide what color to try next, slip it on, and see what happens. <!--graemlin:;)--> <!--graemlin::cool:-->
