I always have my best results with a larger bucktail jig trailed with a soft plastic trailer. I'm opting out to try something diffrent this year and trailing one with a strike king swim bait. After all the minnows I've used I betting a nice 1/2 ounce bucktail with a 4.5 or 5.5 swim bait on it will bring in a few worth sticking in the freezer.

I have done a bit of striper fishing on lake powell. this is a clear desert canyon impoundment. the stipers feed on threadfin shad mostly. if you can find a feeding boil you can nail them on just about anything. they will corral the baitfish up in a cove and go to town. any minnow or shad imitating bait will be taken also bucktails work well. look for birds feeding and there is usually stripers underneath. at other times on powell the fish will hang out deep of the canyon walls. if you find them on your fishfinder you can drop down a jig also here at powell anchovies are a popular bait. also trolling a minnow or shad imitating bait can be effective but I have not had much experience with this method.

I remember how sweet it is when you find em stacked up just like BP said. They get in such a frenzy you could practicaly toss in a bare eagle claw hook and they'll suck it down. get ready to make a run to the freezer early if that happens. Shad seems to be the one thing stipers place at the top of their menu and thats why I use at least a 1/2 ounce buck tail in shad colors mostly, it will drop fast enough to get past the "annoying" 2 to 3 punders LOL to the bigger ones below the pile when they get stacked up in a school. hey let us know how ya do and watch for the feeding birds like BP says.

i've been fishing for stripers on lake mead for 15 years and my 2 go to baits are a zoom super fluke in pearl rigged with a 4/0 to 5/0 swimbait hook or a carolina rig with cut bait , i like anchovies but live bait is always best if you can get them
