Monster Catfish, need I say more. Last week I entererd a photo for the catch of the month but I was to late, the top ten had already been chosen. I wanted all the members to hear my story for the month of April and May. I have caugth more monster catfish this past month than ever before in my life. I have lived on, and have fished the Red River all my life and caught some monster catfish but nothing has compared to this past month. I have caught 15 catfish from 35lbs up to 1 -60lb Flat head and 1- 48lb Blue. I can't even count how many smaller catfish. It has been fun and the best part is  that I have been able to take my kids along with me on just about every catch. The joy of catching the fish is even better when we can show the kids. I have caught 5 of the monster cats with the biggest being 44 lbs on Rod & Reel. The rest have been caught on trot lines. All the fish have been caught on perch, shad or crawfish. The best reuslts I have found were along the rock dikes in the deepest holes using perch as bait. Now is the time to catch the catfish so go fishing and remember to take a kid along with you.

I'm new to NAFC but so far i have learned a lot of new strategies about cats because cats are really all that amuse me and my family. But the one you are holding in the picture is huge! Never in my life have i seen one that big. What did you catch it off of? We usually use liver down  here and so far it has been working pretty good but I haven't seen "the big one" yet. lol just a lot of 2 pounders.

Great catch I agree with you on the best way to catch fish> I have been an avid fisherman for 60 years; held record blue fin giant tuna in Rhode Island Tuna tournment 872 lbs for ten years, still hold record for Blue Marlin 375 lbs caught in New England waters. Now fish for large mouth Bass using LIVE bait every day. The method for fishing is with a remote control boat with a rod and reel mounted on deck that can reel in the fish and tighten or loosen the reel drag all by remote control. The largest Bass I caught was 9 1/2 lbs. Wish I could insert pictures of boat.

I've been lucky to say the least in is not unusal for me catch several big ones a year. I perfer live perch it works the best, but crawfish, and cut shad work pretty good. The one in the picture was caugth on live perch. Look for deep holes with a current break and keep fishing and the big one will come. In the Red River we have plenty of big ones and in fact I've lost some twice the size as this one.

Great. I'm glab you got the big one!! Since the last time I've posted it has been slow as far as catfish. Only caught a couple of 20 to 25 lbs and a few smaller ones. I love fishing so I have turned my attention to bass fishing which is starting to pick up. Nothing big one went about 5 the rest were smaller. The catfish in the Red River will pick up again around September then I will go back to catching the big ones. Hope you keep cathcing the big ones.

Great Monster Cats!! When the fishing picks back up in September try some of the Yum artificial craw fish in different sizes.  I do not know much about fishing for cats and am not physically able to handle trot lines or limb hooks anymore but was real interested how the artificials work since they are readily available in different sizes and made of edible food compounds that cats like.  Can't wait to hear.  Uncle Tom Good luck and good fishing.
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.
