I'm fishing with some guys from work in a "club" we are fishing tomorrow on the big Muskegon River and was wondering if anyone has any unique tricks for the river bass early. I'm guessing low and slow for the big smallmouth, but could end up with just about anything. I'd like to take the first outing of the year, especially on the river.

Any advice or tricks will be appreciated.

i've always done my best with rapala's or other cranks. but i use to fish the thornapple river near hastings not the muskegon river.

i understand jigs and grub tails work pretty good too.

Thanks for the info, worked perfect landed a 3.75lbs and 4.25lb smallmouth to be in first for the night, the month and set me up to be in the fight to win the season.

    Crankbait was the key.
