I am a reborn trout fisherman at the novice level. But I'm trying to practice a lot. This is the first year that I will be serious about going farther out for trout fishing. I live in Long Beach CA and since I am a teacher I have the summer off. Can anybody recommend a good spot or one-night spot near the Sierras or San Bernadino mts. This weeken I'm taking the family to the Lake Gregory Trout Derby! Sometimes I take my six-year old who LOVES to fish for trout. Any help would be appreciated. |

Try Kernville outside of Lake Isabella. Great fishing and good places to eat. |

Thanks guys, sorry for the slow reply. I'm thinking about Independence for Father's day. Do we need barb-less hooks???

Check the regs. It would for you if I could, but I am stuck at work. If you are up for a drive, nice scenery, and trout... Head up this way to Hume Lake. Elavation is above 4000 ft. Camp, fish and enjoy. I am heading there for the weekend of the 25-27July. |

Thank You Salmonking, I hope it went well for you. I'd never heard of Hume, it looks very nice and removed enough from the local lakes to be worth a trip in August. If you have any recommendations I'm all ears. Colaiza1965

Let me know when you head that way. Might be able to hook up and show some spots. Right now eggs are the ticket. The cooler water has them feeding like crazy. Hooked and lost three fish, just to hook them again and land them. There are some great places to fish all arund the lake. #1 spots are past the boat launch and towards the dam. It is running about 75-80 degrees up there now, but will be cooling off very soon. Lures are going to be a must in three weeks. |
