man what great News, this record has been one of those records our state has had on the shelf for a long time. The original Record was split, the longest held perch record was caught by Charles Mayle back in 1985 and was 14.5 inches in length and 1.83 lbs. The Second record holder to share this record until now was back in 2008 and it was caught by Joshua D. Carr and it went 15.25 inches and weighed a mer 1.74 lbs. this is great news for Yellow perch here in the mountain state as here in North central we have seen a decline in yellow perch.

I have had my best success with minnows, softshells and curlytails when fishing for yellow perch. Had one day on Leech Lake, Mn that the perch were so aggressive that all you needed was a crappie rig with bare gold hooks! Tom

I guess we grow em big here in NY. I've caught several 15" perch over the years. Last year I got one at 14" and my wife got this one. The New York State Record is 3lbs 8oz. I know I've caught some over 2lbs but never over 3lbs.

Thats a nice perch, we see them big like that but not in any numbers, we did catch 90 on Wednesday and all were 10" and up, we could have been done under 2 hours but we decieded to go for all 10" or better, took about 6.5 hours. biggest were 13.5 ++ but many 11s and 12s a good mess of fish. I live just west of Cleveland so we are fishing Erie.

Wow  nice fish there. We don't have perch here in my neck of the woods. What most folks around here call perch are sunfish. Some even call gills perch.

I know what you mean dbarnett1! I grew up in WA where a perch was a perch like that giant in the picture. I then moved to the South East corner of NM, on the TX border and someone said they were perch fishing, it suprised me so I went and they started catching "perch" which were actually bluegill. Man, those were some big gills though, and as far as I'm concerned, they can call them what they want as long as I can catch a few!

I remember when my friend used to call Bluegill, Warmouth Bass, just because their mouth was slightly larger.
