The bottom line is that at the moment annual dues are $14 or so, a Life membership is about $300. Are you going to live longer than 20+ years? If you are and enjoy the magazine, the life membership makes sense, assuming the club lasts as long as it has been around so far. Don't forget that annual dues are subject to increases at the club's discretion. Forget the field testing, in over 5 years I have done one test, a set of Banjo Minnows that I have yet to catch a fish on but have been told that are good if I fished 300 miles south! Tom

I'm 59 now. I may still be alive 20 years from now, but I'll almost definately not still be fishing, so I'll just continue annual membership. When I became a life member in N.R.A. and A.M.A. I was still young enough to make it practical.

I have to agree with Mr. Bill on this one! I have not received anything from the club in a long long time, and I have been a lifer since 1997, no long compared to some but long enough to know that the "benefits" for being a LIFER are no where near what they used to be.

It seems that I have received test items on a fairly regular basis. I just make sure to keep up on my profile and not update it very often( I hear this will put you to the back of the list, don't know if this is true or not) Sure do get alot of offers to spend money though plus offers to join the north american hunting club.

i am a life member , i joined by monthly payment's . i am disabled and i can't afford the payment very easily, but i figure that a year goes by pretty fast . The economy hasmade it a hardship for me too ! I haven't gotten very many gift's either , but i just assumed it was because there were alot of members and they were short on gift's. I keep hoping to recieve a cool gift sometime but i have recieved a priceless gift in my opinion , i have been blessed to meet fellow members like bass or bass ? and if it weren't for this club that would not have happened , i would love to recieve some lures or a anything decent , but if i don't i really don't care , i only hope i can meet & fish with as many members as possible , GOD BLESS !

Just a quick question, isn't this the Life Members Only forum? If so, how can a complaint be posted stating one is not a LM'er because of the cost?

For me, I am happy with the decision to become a LM'er back in the '92. I have tested a few products and would like to do more, but realize that I am just one of many within the club. I also like reading how other members rate the items.
As for an additional LM benny, how about additional discounts for LM'ers within the Member Store? A few years back I got one of the "Quick Buys" RAPALA soft side tackle case for a great deal -- would like to these deals come back!

Product testing can be spotty, but, I just noticed at the bottom of the forums page, almost 165,000 members. I don't think we can all expect to get products very often.

Ya I was suprised at that when I first seen it. I was thinking we were maybe only 50,000 strong. I wonder how many of that 165,000 are signed up to field test!

I completely disagree, if your paying your dues, you should be able to recieve things while your paying. its ot like NAFC is going to send someone who WAS a member something.

Just my oppinion... if your paying, even yearly, you should be able to get what everyone else does. its only fair.

im a life member, but might have to change that being i lost my job. but im just saying as long as someone is paying it should not be a problem.

life members get a pacage deal, that is just for life members, lets leave it at that and let everyone test, more feedback, bigger group= more accurate feedback.

Thanks

-Al

Life member since 98` . Hooks and skeeter repelant for test products. Maybe 4 times in 12 years. Life members get the shaft on that deal also, unless your lucky.

HOW DID YOU GET THOSE SKEETERS TO STAY ON THE HOOK ????

what about just going back to your childhood times and remember how great the sport of fishing is without these published clubs to take your hard earned change.sincerely bill grotton trophy member since 2002.

I think that perhaps, sometimes, we forget how the testing program works.  You must fill out a questionaire, submit it and then wait in line with thousands of other members, hoping that a product will be submitted for testing that matches the answers that that you placed in the questionaire.  I have been a lifer since 2005 and have only had a few small test products...This is fine by me as this is not what I joined this club for, although I must say it is a nice added benifit.  I think that if your sole reason for joining is for test products then you will be greatly disappointed!  I am not trying to slam anyone here but trying to add a little sence to this topic...

BASS OR BASS only you can answer the question of is it worth  upgrading or not

THAT'S HARD TO SAY, HOW OFTEN ARE YOU GOING TO USE A PARTICULAR BENEFIT think long term investment here, INTER LIFE EXPECTANCY HERE . As a trophy life member i can get a $100.00 gift card for Cabelas for $90 bucks
for a total of $500 in a calender year . that may not seem like much but that is up to $50 free bucks a year .
and i can use this for me or as a gift or perhaps even purchase for a friend with their cash . so if i don't use it then it has no Value to me but if i use it often that can add up over a life time .

I know a few folks  who have one the catch and release contests. with prizes over $300 bucks in value
i also  know some folks that have field tested stuff and  have sent a thank you to the manufacture and got coupons
and other stuff because of it .

think of the club as a gate way ,with out it  would you have those same  connections or  opportunities.
Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket

I am still not sure what a "trophy member" is. I am a life member. Does this trophy member cost MORE money than the life member and if so what are the supposed benefits of this?
