40+ pound carp

    I recently caught a common carp well over 40" long, and between 40-50 pounds,  my scale only goes up to 25 pounds so the weight is an estimation.  the fish was caught on an ultralight with 4 pound line.  i was wondering if anyone knows what the line class record in illinois is for carp.  i know i can't certify this catch,  but there is a good number of carp this size in this lake and i would like to know for the next time i catch one.

    Illinois does not keep line class records. The state record for a common carp is 51#, the record for a bighead is 64# as of publication of the 2010 fishing guide. I believe a new bighead record is pending. A carp over 15# qualifies for a 'Big Fish' award, a common carp over 32" earns a catch and release award. The release of bighead is discouraged. Illinois does not keep records for grass carp or silver carp as they are not normally taken on hook and line. Tom

    Try transfering it to your computer and enhancing the color.  A fish like that might be able to win the Outstanding Catch Contest!
