I recently caught a fish in a jacksonville florida retension pond on a flyrod. I was using a black wooly bugger with no weight, but was letting it jig a couple of feet from the surface when I got a huge hit. It took 10 minutes to land and I thought it was a carp, but on a flyrod? The water depth was around 6 feet, 10 feet from the bank, and cloudy in the month of november. I wish I had a picture, but here is a description. It was whitish, no spots, big scales, the mouth was like a bluegill, but agled downwards like a suckerfish. The most noticable feature was the hump on the back near the dorsal fin. The fish must have weighed 6 pounds and was about 16 inches long. I usally don't catch a lot of crappies. More bluegill, panfish and bass is what I'm used to, but if anyone can steer me in the the direction of what this fish might be, it would be most appreciated.
