I'm about to try jug fishing and was wondering if anyone had tips for me. I would appreciate it.

Half gallon milk jug or 2 litter plastic bottle 3 to4 foot line weighted #2 or bigger hook your favorite bait then float along with jugs. check laws using jugs in your state. You can use reel and rod while floating with jugs. Best about 2 hours before dark.

Lots of fun!  There are different regulations in different states.  It's been a long time since I first tried them--didn't take long to discover you need proper propulsion to catch them sometimes.  It's quite a thrill when a big cat sinks a gallon jug and it comes back to the surface several hundred yards away.  Even more fun at night with a friend.  Uncle Tom

Is a 3 to 4 ft line typical of a jug line or do you go deeper sometimes?

I have seen people use line 5 to 6 ft. I use 2 litre plastic bottles u can paint then and store line inside after use.

If you are going to paint your jugs, paint the inside. Some states require you to put your name and contact info on them so you can just use a permanent marker on the outside. Friends of mine will do this at night and throw some chemlights on the inside so that they are easily detectable.
