How deep is the pond? Why is the water cold? fish do not mind cool water it has more oxygen and the fountain will add to it and keep the water flowing. Water is subject to the air temp unless it's moving fast then it will be cooler. In ponds, lakes and large bodies of water you will find the fish along the thermalcline.

The pond is about 7ft deep in the middle were the fountain is . I guess the waters not cold, just fresh. To fill up the pond we turn on the fountain. What i was asking is if the catfish will gravitate toward the fresh water? Shoul i turn on the fountain just so the catfish will go there?

I not sure if they will gravitate toward the fountain or not. They will forage. When you say fresh water I assume you mean from a hose. If you are using "city water " you should age the water. The clorine and other chemical used in the process of purification will kill the fish. As long as the water has sufficiant oxygen and food the will survive. To keep oxygen levels I would run the fountain.I would also put the fish in the water slowly. For example, Have the fish in a cooler awith the water it was caught in and slowly add the water from the pond to the cooler. The fish will acclimate safely. If you just chuck the fish in the water it may die from shock. The only thing you should really worry about is that the pond freezes solid in the winter and that it's not over crowded with fish.

The cold alone is not going to kill the fish.  The cold usually kills the plankton.  The dead and rotting plankton and plant matter will usually take out the oxygen level.  That in turn will kill the fish.

I don't know if what the fish in our pond feed off. We used to throw them catfish food, but since the economy has gotten worse we have cut back on feeding them. There are no lily pads or anything in the pond. I would say that the pond is about 50yd. by 30yd. I don't think that there are any little bbait fish like minnowa. Could you tell what they might survive off of? Do they get worms off the bottom. O, have you ever heard of catfish eating ducks? Iv'e seen fish come to the surface and grab baby ducklings. Once a duck dove beneath the water and did'nt come back up. Catfish are the only fish we hae in there. There may be one or two Bass. I would appreciate your help.
