Mondays at Irvine Lake are 1/2 off. I parked and went to what used to be the kids lagoon (beach on eastside). I took a small rig to see if I would get lucky and score a trout and I took two larger rigs for cats. Immediately I scored on some chartreuse powerbait and I thought it was a very feisty trout. It was a blue cat. What a fight! I landed about a 3 lb catfish. I continued with my light trout rigs and alternated my  larger poles (2 poles max) with all kinds of bait and 8 and 12 lb line. Nothing else worked the rest of the morning. I tried a homemade doughbait, anchovies, tuna, sausages, Gulp grubs, worms, etc. I didn't have anymore catfish bait with me. So I packed it in and went to clean. Oh well, better than working, right?
