neither, they're both basically identical in regards to spool supported bearings. The one that usually costs more will usually do a better job.

i cant cast my damn quantum ever WITHOUT it backlashing. IMO baitcasting gear is not my cup of tea. its got its uses, but for me there not practical.

Shimano Spinning all the way. in all my life i have never had a shimano crap out on me.

You can't force baitcasters to get more distance like spinning reels, that's a sure recipe for a backlash on baitcasting reels.

You need to practice more it is not the reel.

To me...the MOST critical part of learning to use a baitcaster is to get it set for a specific lure weight....and be able to cast that weight of lure consistently without backlash.

Once you have accomplished that....then you have to start learning how to adjust it for various lighter lures...or various heavier lures.

This MAY be part of why pros and some regular fisherman have several rigs set up for various types of presentations...so they don't have to change the settings.

Considering that the world distance record has been apretty much exclusively on level winds...it seems that getting the settings to match the weight of the lure is critical.

Personally, I don't like to be constantly changing lures so I always take 7 rigs on the boat and just pick up the one rigged with what I want to use for a particular situation. This includes baitcast, spinning, and fly casting rigs. I also like variety!

    Happy fishing!

thanks northeast, i honestly think its a little bit of both. its an old reel. im trying to get a newer baitcaster to see what there like. I do use my baitcaster for flipping and pitching now tho without it backlashing much.

There still a pain in the ass when it comes down to ease of use.
