I was looking at an older Bass Tracker. I believe it was a tournament or at least very similar with coast guard front. The guy said he wanted to sell it and get a John Boat. So I'm confused because I thought this boat was the very definition of John Boat.

A Jon boat is a flat bottomed boat, usually with a square bow, and very little freeboard (distance from the water to the gunwale). The Trackers I have seen are a modified vee with at least some form of keel. Jon boats also usually lack a floor. Tom

I guess it would help to show a pic. I knew better then to spell Jon with an H , just a brain fart.

Similar design, but all the jons I've seen are tiller motor boats, with simple cross hull metal seats. Very basic utility boats and very light wieght. Car topper type boats.

If you look closely at that Tracker, it does have a slight keel to it, which a jon boat does not have. At least one mfg. sells a side console jon boat. Tom

It's a jon boat with a modified nose, but still a jon boat. Virtually all jon boat manufacturers make them with your choice of square or modified nose along with various flooring and seating arrangements.
