I was fishing for bass in the Huron River, MI, a few days ago.  I the fishing for bass was slowing down so I decided to go after another species.  There is a large population of sucker-type fish in the river and I want to know how to catch them by my next trip there in a few weeks.

It's a lot like carp fishing. Depending on size, but I usually start with smaller hooks for suckers. I will use a size 6 or size 8 hook. I usually will bait it with a small peice of nightcrawler. I know large redhorse will take minnows too so that will work sometimes too. I've also caught suckers on white bread too.

I don't know.  I've never tried it specifically for suckers or redhorse.  I have only caught trout and carp on corn even while there are suckers present in the same waters.

I have only once caught one on a nightcrawler, probably by accident.

There's a topic in the "Computers and Technology" forum about that.  Hope it helps!

We used to have an attatch button, once you figured out how to resize a pic it was easy. Now we have to go thru a hosting site to put up a pic. Progress? Tom

I know that this topic is probably dead, but I caught my first sucker off of a few kernels of corn about a month ago.  He was good sized, too.

Why would you want to waste your time fishing for suckerfish when there are so many other better species to target? We throw them on the shore around here!
