silly question does any one use moon phases to plan thier fishing trips and if so how does a wanining gibbous rate. ive never really put mush stock inthem but have recently started hearing some pretty good local fisherman swear by them. not a ton of info that i could find so i thought i would put it to some of the most knowledgeable people i have ever encountered. would like to hear both pro and cons so i can make an educated decision on wether to start checking this out while planning out of town trips. so lets hear from you all

I don't plan my trips around the moon phasaes. But I do know that the moon has a direct influence on the tides. If you fish tidal waters then you should pay attention to the moon. I don't see why it would not affect fish further up stream. Seeing how it affects so many other animals behavior (Deer, Lunatics,Coral etc...)

I dont plan around them, but I do try to be in the best areas where I am going, when the solunar tables say that it is the best times.

I sometimes use the solunar tables on the in-fisherman website to plan a trip, but only if its a choice between one weekend or another. I wouldn't just plan a trip based solely on the solunar calendar. However, I have noticed slightly better fishing on the trips during the days and times stated on the calendar.

I have been keeping a log this year and other than a slightly improved catch rate at the full and new moon I haven't seen much difference. I have been using the table from a walleye web site, but plan on cross referencing to In-Fisherman and the club mag on my next rain out. I will predict that Duckman will have a better morning than evening on his upcoming salmon trip, but that is partially years of fishing Lk Mich. and partly the tables. Tom

The new issue of infisherman has an article about moon phases and bass fishing. I have not read it yet but will after reading this discussion.

I plan 90% of my fishing trips to coincide with the new moon. If  I can't get out on the new moon, then I try for the full moon. In both cases I rarely am able to be exactly on schedule as my fishing is either on Friday/Saturday (prefered )or Saturday/Sunday. .
