I would like to know how you chose the particular story from the Chicago Sun Times to post on the homepage. The same information was covered by Dale Bowman, the Sun Times outdoor writer. Dale's story included the science behind why it is thought the fish was there and did not include the poorly worded line that would leave a reader to believe this fish entered Lake Calumet this summer. A forensic autopsy concluded that this fish has been in water connected to Lk Michigan for 6 years! This timeline indicates the fish entered Lk Calumet before the barrier became operational. Tom

    Tom:
Are you talking about the first story on carp in the Great Lakes that was in the News & Events section, or the one that is up right now?

Tom: We didn't make a choice between the two links. When the web editor updated the section yesterday, he seached for new info. Mr. Bowman's piece simply did not come up in the internet search. One question, though, I'm not following you when you mention the line about the fish entering the lake this summer. The author states that the 6-year-old fish was "moved or transported during the early part of its life." Clearly, that would have been prior to 2010.

A human -- by design or accident -- likely placed a 20-pound Asian carp in Lake Calumet earlier this summer, sparking neighboring states to renew calls to close Chicago-area locks and prevent the predator from reaching Lake Michigan.
This is the lead sentence copied from the homepage posting. Tom

Kurt: The change is what prompted my 11:26 am post. As you know, I try and stay on top of this subject. In fact, the info in my 8/7/10 post (Ask a fisherman answers) came from the Bowman article. I catch Bowman online and usually don't read the rest of the Sun Times, Between the other metro daily and our local daily my newspaper reading time is pretty full! Tom
