We caught a 40lb snapper last night, its the first one since I was maybe 13 that we have actually landed. We did find a site for cleaning it and are in good shape for dinner tonight!
My question is how do I clean and preserve the shell properly? I don't really want it for anything more then a trophy, like any other stuffed fish or critter you might be proud of.
Cooking tips would be great to, there seems to be many differnt looking types of meat in there also! I can't wait to eat it!
Thank you! Kristy

Kristy, believe it or not, I had the same thing happen to me not less than a week ago. I'm willing to bet you caught him at night or just before. I brought it home, kept it alive in an old child's pool and went right to Google which gave me several recipes - for soup and even stew. As far as keeping the shell, I would clean it real well with steel wool and Spick & Span and hose it down. To preserve it there are cans of polyester or you can even paint brush it with clear enamel. Good luck. |
