chicken liver has always been my prefered bait. sometime nightcrawlers work well
A bad day fishing beats a good day at work.

eels are the best. but bream are the next go to bait. bream is like a chunk of  ham to a catfish. the eel is like M&M,s to a catfish.

I never use chicken liver anymore. For channels I like frozen squid. Caught my pb channel in February on squid. For flatheads nothing beats live bait, bluegill or carp.

Chicken livers here as well, although the occasional cut bait of bluegill works well also.
The more you know, the less you have to carry.

For active cats, trim the bottom 2/3 from a small bluegill. Just enough to make him bleed a little and still kick around. For sedentary fish, Wal-Mart's Uncle Dan's stink brings them in for miles but be sure to bring a bar of soap with you. The stuff is funky-funk.

I ALSO HAVE NEVER CAUGHT ANYTHING WITH STORE SOLD STINK BAITS, CHICKEN LIVER, SHRIMP, AND HOTDOGS WITH THE CHEESE IN IT, AND I MAKE MY OWN CHUM, AND THATS ALL I USE.

I don't fish for catfish a whole lot, but my favorite bait for them is cheese injected hotdogs.  If you have any leftovers from an outdoor grillout, you know what to do with them!

Using raw chicken liver creeps me out, but works well. Cut bluegill is great bait. Hotdogs are a classic.
