Salmonilla doesn't excite me! That chicken makes me hungry! How about a dancing biscuit & gravy!

Live shad, cut shad, live gill, cut gill, and good ole shrimp. Shad is at the top of my list for Kats, it's the Katfish candy. Although my biggest Kat to date has come on a LIVE Gill.

Eel works well, and sometimes chicken liver, or minnows work too. But some cut eel or some cut fish works wonders.

I've posted this before but I'll do it again here.

For flathead cats I use the largest sunfish I can catch on an 8/0 Gamakatsu octopus circle hook. My rig is a standard slip rig, 4 ounce sinker,  on a 7' Offshore Angler Power Plus Trophy Class heavy boat rod , a Penn Peer 209 reel, 80 pound test Offshore Angler Spectra Braid line with 50 pound test Berkley Big Game monofiliment leader.

For channel cats I now use only frozen squid for bait. Frozen squid can be purchased at any Asian supermarket for @ $2 a pound. It is VERY tough and stays on the hook until you remove it, difficult for fish to steal, won't cast off. I consistantly outfish those around me using any other baits and I caught my personal best channel cat last year on squid. I use s standard slip rig, 1 ounce sinker,  on a 6'6" Rhino Kevlar medium heavy rod, a BPS Mega Cast MCM2000 baitcast reel, 17 pound test Berkley Trilene XT line, and 4/0 Gamakatsu octopus circle hooks.

I know many of you swear by chicken liver, and I don't want to rub anyone's fur backwards, but I have NEVER caught any catfish using chicken liver.

Happy Fishing!

Deer Organs work great for catfish.  After harvesting a deer I keep what most guys leave in the field and use as catfish bait.  In SE Indiana on the Ohio River the blue cats love deer heart/liver etc...  I have even caught Gar and Stripers on it...  I just hook it frozen and drop it to the bottom and pull it up about 6inches.  Catfish cant resist it because its very poignant smell and they are curious because its not an everyday scent.  Biggest we cauht was a 24lb blue on a pece of Deer liver.

I've been using "Chuck's Awesome Catfish Bait" here in Texas and limit out every time i go. It's a stink bait but after I used it once, I haven't found anything better.

I googled "Chuck's Awesome Catfish Bait" but turned up nothing.

Do you have a web link for the product?

Thanks

my luck with cats has been baby perch.. 3.5-4 inches long... night crawlers are good too.. but they definitely munch on some perch.

Depends on where im fishing. I use Bluegill, Horney Heads Live and Cut.... Night Crawlers or Chicken Livers.... Also during deer season i use intestines from the deer. works well if you can stand the cold weather.

I have tried stink baits, livers, and other store bought items. I have never cared for these baits. The most luck I have with are blugils, shad, and nightcrawlers. I have also heard that baby bullhead cats are good bait. If you are going for channels, I have had the best luck with a whole nightcrawler. for big, active, and hunting flatheads the best bait I have found is a live blugil or shad...whatever you can catch before the sun goes down! catfish are hunters. so the larger fish will respond better to live bait, opposed to that horrible smelling expensive store bought stuff. thats just my opinon.
Happy fishin boe!
