I have been using mine with the broken tip. I havent caught any fish with it yet, but I think I'll blame it on the broken rod.
Seriously though, the rod is fine once the first eye is gone.

I landed plenty of fish on that rod and was very happy with it. It broke @ the spot everybody is talking about while I was trying to free a snag.
