Anyone ordered from Gander online? I just placed an order, figured I'd give them a try. The online catalog will take some getting used to, but the free shipping is nice! Tom

Tom I have never ordered on line, but have shopped in thier store a couple of times. They are a little spendy on some things, but a great store with quality products.

Tom, I never have been in one of their stores, but have ordered a number of things from them online--have only had good experiences with them.  I assume the store would be exciting much like I have enjoyed with Cabela's and BPS.  Usually, stopped in Cabela's on my way back from hunting trips to Colorado, Sidney, Nebraska I think.  I was impressed with the Cabela's store because it had a restaurant in it, ate my first buffalo burger.  I think you will enjoy Gander's Mountain.

I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

Hey guys I found a new web site to order fishing gear at great prices, you may want to check out. fishermanschoiceproshop.com Yesterday I ordered a new Pflueger Patriarch and got it for $139.95 and they are normally $200 everywere else and free shipping on orders over $50 and same day shipping. Like I said I ordered it yeaterday and will get it on Friday. Try that with BPS or Cabelas and see how long it takes. Just thought I'd pass this little tid bit along to all my fellow brothers and sisters in NAFC.

The last of my order showed up today. Funny thing, I got an email telling me the hooks and line I ordered were enroute but not a word about the rod! The rod showed up Fedex yesterday, the rest of the order today- right on time! Absolutely no complaints with GM, they delivered as promised even though the communication was a bit wierd! Tom

Forgot to add- one of the things I ordered was an Ugli Stick. While I have fished with Uglis for years, most of the rods I have used have been heavier rods, the one I recently purchased was what Shakespeare calls a light action. I always found Uglis to be a bit stiff, the one I recieved yesterday is almost more on the ultralight side. While I am not complaining, the rod is a bit softer than what I expected! It also lacks the signature visible wrap that made Ugli Sticks "ugly" !  Tom

GM is basically no different than BPS or Cabelas...except that those 2 companies have MUCH larger stores

At the same time though...GM will have "closeout sales" just like BPS and Cabelas

Another thought...the GM stores in SOME areas don't carry much fishing stuff from what I hear

Tom...with your experiences...I would THINK that you might have expected that with that Ugly-Stick rod

Buying rods online without seeing them is ALWAYS a small "shot in the dark" UNLESS you have actually seen one / "put your hands on one"

Dave: Sometimes I tend to work off of memory rather than current experience. I am really happy with the rod, it is just a bit softer than what I expected. After fishing it a few times now, the action seems perfect for what I had in mind when ordering. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. Tom

Dave first off how is your foot doing? Second I went to a GM store in Washington, Pa and it tons of fishing gear, granted not as much as BPS but more than Cabela's. As far as ordering rods on line I have done it many times with no problems. I use only one brand of rods St Croix so I do my reserch prior to ordering them. However I stopped ordering on line because BPS and Cabels's started charging $6 to $8 per rod if is a one piece rod, and I refuse to pay that, so now I go to my local St Croix dealer and order them there and no extra fees.

@ Tom...happy to hear that the rod has worked out for ya...over the years I've had trouble finding decent ultralight rods at a reasonable price / length / "feel" ...and everything that I ran across in stores as far as UglyStiks were concerned were EXACTLY as you described....a little stiff

I even found (at a K-Mart out in Cali) a 4' 6" Shakespeare so-called ultralight combo where the rod is like a pool cue  I'll dig it out and post a pic when I get a chance

@ Harry...thanks for asking...foot is STILL healing. Doc had oringinally said it would take a LONG time because of previous injuries playing basketball and such over the years  and he was right  not limping as bad as I was at La Crosse in July though  but still not 100% "back to normal"...MAY never be though  only the good Lord knows for sure.

At the same time though...I can relate to what you said about shipping charges for rods  which is "PART" of the reason why I mentioned in the "Gander Mountain" topic about sales

I HOPE you BOTH are having a good summer...but IMHO...c'mon Fall and COOLER temps

Dave: I wasn't too concerned about the action of the rod, I intended to use it basically for bobber fishing for panfish. I was actually pleased that it was a bit more limber than I expected. I have yet to try casting light lures with it, but will soon. Tom

I prefer the "limber" rods for most any type of bobber fishing Tom.....even when I'm using something light like a Thill Shy Bite.

Dave: Do you use any of the small weighted bobbers? I bought a few and promptly removed the weight, found out that it was nice to know that your bait was not lying on weeds, the bottom etc! Tom
