Has anyone used this type of portable for fishing on small or medium sized rivers and how did you like them?

    drdore,
You asked a question about rivers small & medium size, about boats there is so many types out on the market. For me I have a Pelican 10'E pontoon using a Minn Kota 55 # transom mount Endura. It is fine for small rivers and medium size as long as they don't have rapids. This type of pontoon is not made for rapids., mainly for ponds and small lakes. My friend has a Bass-Hound 10' and he has use it on the James river in VA.; but it started to take it's toll on it due to rocks. So I know another person that has one of those air filled river pontoons, he likes it but the price is out of my reach or range. So you need to describe more information about the type of fishing you'll be using it on!

In reply for more information Dennis, I usually float fish the tailwaters of tims ford lake. It is part of the Elk river in Tennessee. We never run the river during power generation. There can be a ten to fifteen foot rise in less than twenty minutes.Normal depths run six inches to twelve feet. Mostly rock and gravel with speed of one to three miles per hour flow.We use kayaks, flat bottom john boats but, it can make it tough to make multiple casts to good spots. I am looking at eight foot pontoon with single seat and oars, so i can be more flexable to make more casts from a higher platform. Thanks for any information or problems that you have had with this type of boat.

drdore, alright then you want a pontoon. Well the pontoon I have is a Pelican 10', it is stable to stand and I use mine with a 55# Minn Kota Endura transom. This rig I have can take on low rivers or streams but not for rocks/boulders. I paid little over $500.00 at Gander Mountain and the trolling motor was about $200.00 little under but can't remember exactly then a HummingBird Piranaha Max 170. The sea stand I bought a replacement from Wal Mart for $30.00 padded seat. Put 2 anchors bow & stern an a deep cycle battery.
