I tend to only partially agree. I have caught plenty of brown's during the daylight hours. but early morning and late evening and throughout the night are excellent times to land a trophy. Browns definately relate to meetier offering's and do prey heavily on baitfish or even other trout.

yer right brain, they can be picked up during the day. you just have to learn were they are holed up and fish accordingly. there are times that it seems it doesn't matter what you throw at them and they'll bite. it's like pike during the nite. you don't realy hear about it but i have taken enough pike at nite that i know they will feed then. |

I have never fished for browns at night but I have read that the bigger the fish, the more they tend to be nocturnal and come out of hiding to cruise the shallower areas in search of an easier meal during darkness. I have however caught several big(for where I fish) browns during daylight hours and I can catch the smaller fish any time as long as the sun isn't shining overhead and directly into the water. I have noticed that all but one or two of them were caught either on a cloudy day, in a shaded area, in or below whitewater that obstructed some light penetration or during early morning or early evening. I do remember one good sized fish that I caught while the sun was on the water in a very shallow and clear section of the river. It was hiding behind a rock that was not much bigger than it was and came out to hit my spinner in sunlight.

yes browns will do that. lay in wait under a log or a rock that has room for them , under a cut bank--were the current has cut the soil out from under the edge of the bank-- then as something that looks like a good easy meal to them. they dart out and grab it and go right back under what ever it was that they were under. |

Brown Trout feed alot at night. I'm not sure about Rainbow Trout, though. |

Seems that the browns that live in streams have different habits than the Lk Michigan browns I am familliar with. All of the browns that are caught from the lake seem to come during the day including the recent possible world record. Tom |
