I'll agree. The salmon run seems to be determined by weather, water temp and to some degree moon phase. The salmon are showing up in the Chicago harbors right now, so it is time! Tom |

there is always a few salmon that start showing up in aug. but the main runs normally do not show up until sometime in sept.. i have seen the runs--and i mean big runs--be in the rivers by labor day weekend. but i have seen years that they didn't even show until early oct.. like tom said weather and tempts play a big part on the runs....if its hot and dry, then you can almost count on late runs or very sparse. or is it cool and wet, then early runs is the norm. this year is a bit funny. hot during the days, cool at nite and not much rain-- at least around here-- and the salmon are already showing up. but of coarse lake michigan did get its fair share of rain in aug. so that could be counting on the runs being there now. |

Well in OHIO we need rain to clean the rivers out so the steelhead will come up. Fishing the mouth of the vermillion river for smallies my friend hooked 3 on a drop shot rig, then said the heck with the bass and had some real fun. We have been casting and trolling the Rocky River mouth for a couple weeks with mixed success. All the rivers here on the west side of Cleveland still need a good cleansing.
Good Luck All |

Anybody planning on going fishing for steelhead soon? I hear they've been catching some at Grand Rapids. |

Rivers are just now getting down to somewhat normal flow rates and levels, people should start doing well over the next few days, I am preparing 3 nice fish for the smoker as I type.
Good Luck all, |

Posted By solitario lupo on 19 Mar 2011 06:29 PM heading out this week or next week for steelhead. I'll be fishing the tribs that flow into erie tho... From what I've been hearing there is still some issues with ice in the mouths of the bays in the areas of the south west and western ports launches. South Haven still needs to have the dredging compleated at the launch as well. The equipment is still there from last fall when they started, so the assumption is they never finished. Too bad we are suppose to get another clobbering of SNOW mixed with freezing rain tonight. They are predicting about 5 inches of fresh snow for the Ludington areas from tonight into tomorrow. |

If I had known this weekend was as nice as it was, i would have been there. Usually I go the third week in march but I hate when it snows up in erie. They should have been done with that dredging like 2 years ago.hahaha They are catching them up there and thats what I like to hear. |
