Well, it's actually a hurricane, hurricane Earl to be exact and it's comin through my neck of the woods this weekend and I've been wonderin what it's gonna do for the fishing. Are they gonna go nuts and eat everything in sight? Are they gonna clam up and brace for the storm? Are there gonna be plate-sized crappie falling from the sky!?  Anyone fished right before, during, or right after a big storm like this one?

I don't live near the ocean, so I really haven't experienced a tropical storm.

wish i could answer that one too. I hope you weather it ok. In my neck of the woods I enjoy fishing right before a storm but I am not sure how the barometric pressure before a hurricane would affect the fishing.

I had kind of hoped to see some response from some of the guys living along the east coast or some of the Fl. members! As Brian said, fishing just before a storm is normally good to excellent but I have never fished before a storm that large or intense. Hope you don't have too many problems from the storm. How about a report when it has passed? Tom

Well, we survived the "big storm" unscathed. No fishing beforehand or during, but I went out about 12 hours after it had passed and the fishing was pretty good. It really wasn't a big deal around here, MA. I'm not sure about places farther south where it was probably more intense. It started getting real bad about quarter past midnight, and I didn't stay up and watch much past 1:30, but it was just like a regular nor'easter, except a little more intense. We didn't even lose power at all during the night. That was last night, and this morning was just another beautiful day for fishing.

TWISTER!  Are y'all doing the dance game now?  Seems like to me the Twisteer was what lead to the Texas Two Step!
That is until I saw that beautiful little daughter in law of mine in her stockings and wedding doing the Texas Two Step on the dance floor after the wedding with my son.  All I could do was get my Stetson and Grannie sing Tumbling Tumble Weeds and try to remember when we are were going fishing together.  Everything in our family is generated by competition.  First thing that little fillie did was through jerk bait into willow bush as I maneuvered the boat under low limb, lost my balance and fell into her lap with her just giggling and grinning.  When things settled back to normal my son preceded to teach her in five minutes everything I had taught him in 25 years.  Being the young libertarian she is she hushed him and told us she could do it by herself--now more tension in air than in the lure and line.  Three or four minutes went by and a real nice five pounder engulfed that little jerk bait.  She squealed and was hooked for life.  No that's what a call a twister.  Be ware of who you take fishing:  "Gal Power Rules and Is Running Wild in our streams and lakes.  Don't believe me take you wife or girls fishing!
    Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

Fishing south Louisiana I can only tell you we too busy getting ready when a cane comes to fish, though we have had some real good red and speck fishing on the coast before hand. And down here, so many leaves and trees in the water microbes consume all the O2 killing off most if not all the fish and fishing is down with drag nets aint a pretty site
