I wasn't expecting much out of Lake Lotawana this weekend because the cold front and wind. I was wrong. Not much in size, but I caught a half dozen walleye (little ones, just stocked this year), several LMBs, a dozen crappie, two channel cats (biggest weighed about 8#), a load of green sunfish, a white bass (first in a couple of years), and lots of regular blue gill. If I'd have caught a flathead, then I'd have caught all the game fish traditionally in that lake. If I'd caught the flathead and a yellow perch, I'd have caught all the gamefish I've ever seen taken out of that lake. Please note, I've only seen one yellow perch from Lake Lotawana in my life and that was earlier this year. Nearly all the fish came on a 1/16 jig with a tiny purplish/white curly tail grub and a mini little bomber crankbait. If the hooks had been a little larger on the crankbait, I'd have landed two larger bass. All told, I was surprised. Perhaps the much cooler water turned on the bite.

I went out again last night, and between the lightning I got a couple of fish. In fact, it was pretty good. Once again, they were small, but they bit readily. We lost a catfish that swam the line around something that wouldn't come up on heavy heavy line, during the electrical storms. Driving home we saw some INCREDIBLE bolts of lightning. My buddy Keith, caught the largest fish, LMB probably just shy of 2#.
