I found out many years ago just how therapudic fishing can be. back in february of 1990 I was staying at a friends house. This friend was bif time into firearms and to top it off was a bit unstable.( the last time I seen him in around 95 he had pretty much gone off the deep end) Anyway he was sitting in his recliner watching TV and was messing around with his guns. he had a .45 and .380 pistol sitting on the lamp table. I had just gotten out of the shower and walked into the room. He had the 380 in his hand with the clip in the other. asa I walked out he pointed the gun at my face. I just said @#$% U stop goofing around. He then pointed the gun towards my crotch and pulled the trigger. well much to my surprize the gun went off and I was struck in the lower abdomem. The round went through my abdomenal muscle, perforated one of my bowels, and glancing off my hipbone before lodging just under the skin on my backside. I fell to the ground and it burned like hell. There was not much blood because the heat did a good job cauterizing.
I ended up having to go to surgery. they cut through my abdominal muscle with a 6 inch incision patched my bowel and took out my appendix for no other reason than that they were right there anyway. I spent 3 days in the hospital and when I got home I could barely walk. what walking I did do was with crutches. It hurt like hell to walk. about a week later I my fishing buddy asked if I wanted to go to the Provo river fishing. I said ya ok and took a cane and a bunch of percocet. There was a bunch of snow on the ground, not too bad next to the stream but away from in and on the way in there were spots where it was up to my thighs. had a good day fishing with several brown trout in the 16 to 20 inch range plus a bonus whitefish. by the time we were done I was hammered and thought I could not go another step and after a dinnere of pizza and beer at a nearby skie resort town I went hope and crashed out thinking a man I really should not have done that.
To my surprize the next morning I felt like a million bucks, it was almost like the injury never happened and I was able to walk around with almost no pain. every once in a while the scar tissue still hurts a bit but I feel that that fishing trip greatly speeded up my recovery and plus it was good for the soul.

I did see him a couple of times after that but when the dude started getting into playing with explosives I said get the hell outa there. Just one luck thing was that he did not have his .45 inhand with the wadcutters instead of the 380

yes chicken soup for the soul. Or should we say fish poop for the soul.

Hitting or not,There always a good feeling when you leave the creek, pond bay ocean or whatever you like.It comes from inside when you spend time with yourself or friends fishing. If no fish you have time to soul serch. If the bite is on it's a great feeling. Win or loose it's always worth the trip.John Stratton3
