A bit of searching through old posts, especially the bass topic, will turn up loads of advice on this! It is a shame that the search feature here isn't worth a tinker's darn. Tom |

Just choose a knot: Palomar, Miller, or even a Snell knot. Here's the way of how I was doing it long before I even heard of it being called a Drop Shot rig. Hook is tied with Palomar knot. The line is extened by a Surgeons loop knot. Great for crappies, walleyes, and perch. |

If you know how to tie a palomar knot your half way there. Get yourself some Stand Out hooks, tie the knot onto the bend above the eye of the hook. Leave the tag end about 10 to 12 inches long or longer if your prefer. Once you have the knot tied just run the tag end through the eye of the hook. Attach a dropshot weight to the end of the tag end and your done. The way the stand out is designed it will stand streight out when weight is applied. I know others use regular hooks but I have a hard time getting them just right and thats why I use the stand out hook. Harry |

Everyone knows how to tie the basic overhand knot. Then the palomar is just doubling the line and hanging the loop end over the hook to hold it. |

once you learn to tie a rig you like, tie several of them and tie on a swivel to each, this way you can easily tie one on when you need. treat it like another lure or bait. |

Using a swivel on a drop shot rig isn't such a good idea. The reason the hook is above the weight is to put as much action on the lure(worm) with the slightest movement of the rod tip. Adding a swivel will take some of that action away and add more weight that's not needed. tieing the hook streight to the main line is the proper rig set up. Harry |

I don't use any swivels in my setup either. If I was to power drop shot fish, I'll maybe put a swivel before the sinker. |

Learning to tie a palomar knot or any knot for that matter is just a matter of practice. I use an eyebolt and a piece of nylon cord, that way I can tie a knot but I am able to untie it and do it again. After several times of tying any knot this way it becomes natural and much easier with ths type of practice. |

mr bill and other members, Don't forget to use this site to it's fullest. If you click on the video tab mr. bill you will find 23 pages of videos and tying the polomar knot is one of them. It goes slow and you can replay the video as many times as you need to until you get the knot down like clock work. Hope this helps you out! |
