Just got done fixing my MinnKota Edge 45 piece of junk got out on river Friday motor would'nt unlatch so I fiddled with it used a screw driver and the post from my front seat for a hammer. I got it lose so I could use it, got home took it apart two of  the rivits in the pull bar came out after I looked at them I could see why. That was the ****iest riviting job I ever saw, and the return spring was also broken, I found a spring at Ace Hardware that would work and rerivited the latch bar , ok now.was going to by a Minn Kota anchor winch not now so if any of you guys have an Edge 45 watch out you may also have this probluem. I have an Edge 50 and the only problem I've had with it in 3 years is the height adjustment knob stripped off the shaft. Not a problem for me as I need the motor at full length anyway.

I had the similar problem, but the trouble was in the head of the unit. Mine was a 70# Bow mount, the pedal would only turn one direction and no matter how much I adjust the pedal it wouldn't turn  except to the right. Sent it back to the Minn Kota and they sent me another one at no cost to me.
In the head, the cable that wraps around the head in side was broken with the ball barrings rolling around in the head.  What you sold have done, send it back for free a replacement. After all they are guaranteed for 2 or 3 years. The only problem is it takes time for sending and receiving. Good luck with the one you fixed.

After taking motor apart and fixing and seeing how it's made thoes MinnKota engeeners must have been three sheets into the wind the person that rivited the pull bar needs to be taught how to roll a rivit so they don't pull out. I did'nt have the money to send it back by truck UPS and FEDEX would'nt take to heavy so I fixed myself at least it's rivited the right way this time. Now I'm waiting for the other end to pull loose, and I'll fix it right, next timeI'll try a Motor Guide.             MCOPELAND1

Sorry to hear that you had to fix it yourself. But UPS & FedEx will pickup at your house. I signed up for a account an I can track and ship from my house instead of taking it to the UPS or FedEx office. But not just you but everyone needs to remember to Register the product that you buy , I even register my reels and rods. There is 2 web sites I check out for information on motors and boats, www.marinedoctor.com and then, www.tinboats.net both are free to join and get information on anything about boats.

Dennis: I did register the motor what upset me was the fact the motor is only 5 months old as far as shipping it back to MinnKota I thought about an account at UPS but I don't have any real use for one there is a repair dealer only 45 minutes away. I just think MinnKota needs to rethink there latch unlatch system, also the momentry switch I had to redo they put a big heavy return coil spring under it I took the spring out now all I need to is lay my foot on switch and off I go chasing the fish. MinnKota needs to rethink the entire construction of all there motors. What do you guys think?            MCOPELAND1        PS I saved for this motor for a year then get dissapointed and breaks after only 5 months
