I was reading a lake guide that was published around the late nineties.  It showed that one lake in the upper part of the lower peninsula had a Grayling population.  Boy how so much has changed!  Polution has destroyed some of our top trout waters and the damming of some of our rivers has disrupted the entire ecosystem the trout thrive in.  I was wonding if it still is a possiblility that Michigan still has some Grayling.  If not, can they be reintroduced?

the reason that that lake had grayling was the state was trying to reintroduce them and it didn't take.

hey multi, have ya ever read the story why we do not have grayling in michigan any more? it is a pretty good story. in some ways it was pollution that destroyed our population. i believe it was in the early 1800's that the loggers moved into the state and logged off all the trees in the state. which took all the shade from the rivers-- which in turn warmed up the water-- and then when it rained, there was nothing left to stop all that silt from running into the water ways-- which destroyed the spawning sites, killed off the insect life that the trout and grayling feed off of and this too took the oxegen out of the water.

there is more to it than just that....but that was the biggest and fore most reason for their domise

Is there any (slight) possibility that they could be reintroduced into the state?

Is there a possibility that there is a (really) small population somewhere?

Is there any place in the UP that Grayling can be introduced into?  Has the UP been spoiled, too?  Sorry about all the questions.  It seems that Grayling is a "doomed" topic.

"You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone," sang Joni Mitchell, a folksinger from the 1960s. This is an especially appropriate sentiment regarding the sad-but-true story of the grayling. Once a native fish species in Michigan, these fish now reside on the list of Michigan's extinct species. Click Herehttp://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,...--,00.html
