I always find discarded jigs at public places.  Busted hooks or old jigs with rusted out hooks.  Yet they are still usable.  After I tie them with some fresh new hooks.  Either the old hook has broken off or I simply cut off the old useless hook.

What I find about it is that I seem to get better hook up ratio.  That's more than I'd expected from it's original hooks.  It could simply be that the short line tied allows the hook to swing a little more making it easier for the fish to engulf the hook.  Regardless it gets the job done, plus I clean up the public general area.  Getting rid of a potential dangerous rusty hook jig and littered jigs.

Great idea Bob. And I gotta agree about the hook having more movement.

MANY folks around the country over the years have added split rings to some of the older lures like Lucky 13's, Jitterbugs, Hula Poppers, Creek Chub Pikies etc...and felt that their percentage of lost fish had been dramatically lowered.

Interesting and I admit I never would have thought of that. That idea might have even worked on some of the old spinner-baits I found with bad hooks and chopped up for parts.

Here's the prototype feathered jig with an attached hook I dug out from my tackle box.  The original hook has rusted from the point on the body of the lure and broke when I went for a hook set on a fish.  I was slightly dissappointed that the hook broke but I couldn't just toss out this jig.  So I had saved it with my original intention of tying hook onto body of lure, but decide it may slip off.  So hook is tied onto hook eye on jig.  I tip with minnow for this lure now.
