I like to crank, so what I've done is dressed that rear hook up with some feathers.  I like to choose colors that will resemble close to what the lure colors are.  It makes it for a set match.

Owner Cranks.  The firetiger pattern lure has the hand tied matching feather trailer.

Spro Cranks with hand tied matching feather trailer.

I like how the rear hook has become camouflaged and sort of act as part of the entire lure.

They look good Bob. Some folks go the opposite direction on color though..and make something that contrasts more...such as white or black with some flashabou mixed in.

Turnip has a trailer tying thread on here somewhere

The dressed feathers I tied do have flashbou mylar twines in them too.  Just no flash on camera so they don't really pick up on the photo.  I too use the highly contrast feather trailer on some other lures as well.  I've found out that the matching camouflaged appearance has a time and place that brings success over the contrasting feather trailer.  Low light angle and cloudy scenarios seems to have been more successful from my testing time with these lures vs the contrasting tail type.  They're not meant to compete against the contrasting trailers, but more like to complete the set.
