Sadly, the last time I went fishing with my dad and brother, my dad's fishing rod, a Bill Dance ultralight, fell victim to a door closed at an innoppurtune moment.  I remember seeing a tip in I think the Member Directory thingy saying that the rod tips that break off could be used as an ice fishing setup. Does anyone know if this is true, and how to do it? Would I have to cut off a guide to make room for a reel zip-tied to the rod, or should I take the reel seat and put it on the end of the half-rod? The rod broke in between the largest and second-largest guides, the tip half still has about 2 and a half feet to it, and I still have both pieces, but some material inside the rod was lost so I can't just tape the two pieces back together. Any thoughts?

I'm not a rod builder but from what I can see is that often, you may want to have the line guides stripped and reset for optimal performance. I will say that I've used a two peice rod before and had it tied down low to get the job done. It was enough to catch fish.

I've also cut a rod handle part and added onto it another ice rod blank to make a complete rod. One of my favorite rod for dead sticking.

Last year I bought two 5 1/2 foot altra lite crappie rods, to make a log story short I closed the rod locker lid on my wife's and broke 6 inches off the tip. I got a new tip line guide and some rod glue and put the new eye on it. It's now a 5 foot rod but works just fine.

Thanks for the input, guys, I really do appreciate it, but a $45 rod just isn't worth spending the time, effort, and money on tying it back together. I did, however, find an old paint roller with a wooden handle on it that I cut off and put on the bottom of the tip segment, and the epoxy is setting right now, so I'll let you guys know how it came out.
