a year ago i moved from a great place for fishing and hunting, the state of michigan. i moved to another state and i'm learning more and more every day were to go and whats here for me to chase.
last spring i started to fish a river here in ohio-- the grand river-- and i would like to say that i have been doing pretty good on it. i have caught allot of smallmouths, a few largemouths, white crappy, bluegills, bullheads, mooneyes, white perch and walleyes. when on this river fishing i have seen allot of wild animals too. like turkeys, few deer, baldeagles, kingfisheres, river otter, all kinds of different birds and even a black bear.

now for my story.......all summer long i have seen muskie swimmingin this river, i even have had a couple on for a short battle, but always seem to lose them some how. i have tried to target them several times this year without even getting a strike. the one's that i had hook came when i was fishing for something else.
tonite i was after walleyes with my ultralite rod and you can guess it......i hooked a muskie.......i played him up and down the river for about 10 minutes before a started to get control of him. i worked the fish onto a sandbar to beach him-- didn't have a net with me.
as i reach down to grab the muskie he gave a flop, turned around, grab hold of my hand andstarted to shake his body back and forth like a dog on a rag. when i was able to sub due the fish again and get my hand out of its mouth.....i was holding a small but very lively 28" tiger muskie.....i finally landed 1, the battle had been won
now for the casualty list.........8 cuts in hand from them sharp teeth, 2 holes also in the same hand from one of the trouble hooks going into it-- had to push hook thru and cut off and then pull rest way out-- ultrilite reel has a broken bail and i'm going to have to repair rod tip too-- 5 1/2' eagleclaw feather lite is now going to be about 2" shorter

I am assuming you did not get photo's of your hand. it would make a good "do not try this at home" story.

Mr. Bill, I have become so attached to you through these forums that I feel like we have been friends for a lifetime.  I am sorry to hear about your hand--know it must cause pain.  You are in my prayers, someone mentioned your wife as well.  I hurt with you--remembering a tourney where a keeper largemouth put the treble hook not in him in me and he would not stop wiggling, digging it in deeper.  My close friend and tourney partner tried every way we could to cut the hook out when we finally give up catching fish and looked for nearest hospital where in short time they were able to remove the two hooks and add  a couple of stitches.  Most importantly was a tetnus shot.  Hope you have had a recent one, nothing to play around with!  Again, you are in our prayers!  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

Sounds painful, Mr. Bill.  Well worth it though!

Great story, Mr. Bill  !  Sounds to me like you won both the battle and the war but took a casualty or two.  Hope your hand heals well.

Can't wait to hear stories of Mr. Bill vs ....

    Alligator Gar
    Alligator Snapper

LOL's...I've taken some damage from bullheads and catfish and learn to always respect the fish. So when ever I don't have a landing net, I must have at least fish handling gloves available.

I've got scars on my hand from trying to hold some really slippery bullhead.

The only outdoor wrestling match I've ever had was with a whitetail deer I shot down. Thing went down and out for the count, straight drop. I waited a few minutes for it to bleed itself out. When to look at it. It wasn't moving. Was dragging it along by holding the hind legs up the towards the walk path. I felt it's legs begining to kick. I turn around. It's head peered up at me. WHAT THE! It's still alive. Deer starts to struggle to it's feet. I tackle and reigned it around the neck. We shuffle and tussle. I had to take out my big Gurkha knife. Stabbed it atthe right lung. The deer goes down. I start to drag it again. After a few yards, the deer begins to kick again. It's head peered up at me again. Probably wondering why it's being dragged again. I then had to turn the deer on it's other side and knife it again in the other side on the left lungs. Only this time, I turn the blade so the blood would bleed out of the lungs and the deer finally went into the afterlife. It was just a little spike whitetail. That's kind of why I stick to fishing instead of hunting. LOL's

lmao......can relate to that 1 too........glad it wasn't me, but a friend of mine and my dad told me of a story like that about 1 of his brothers.

just 1 ?........why didn't ya think about giving it a tra-k job
and glad ya didn't stick yer self instead of the deer, like my buddy did. he went to cut the throat and when the knife went thru, he stuck the point of the blade into the palm of his hand.
