I recieved the 2011 "The Art of Fishing" calendar in the mail. I am apparently in a small group of every 1 in 12 members to "review" this calendar. Now I am expected to send payment, or return the calendar(postage paid label included). That is all fine and dandy, BUT! Why do I need to take the time out of my day to send the club back something that I never asked for in the first place? Marketing? Okay, I get that. Maybe 2 or 3 people out of 10 might send payment because: 1, they enjoy the calendar; 2,  they dont want the hassel. The calendar is nice, but artistic portraits of fish are just not my style. My question is who should I bill for my gas, my headache medication, and pain and suffering, for when I take this calendar back to the post office?

How much are they asking for the calandar? I know what you are saying. a few years ago i got this offer and decided to keep it for 9.99. the next year rolled around and I got another one but this time much higher priced. i agree with where you are coming from Fred. Thats why a club store is a good idea, that we we can pick and choose what we want to receive.

BTW 1 in 12 members. at over 185,000 members thats still like over 15,000 calandars sent out.

Brian, you are right on the mark!  I don't know what it will take to get through to headquarters about the store and all the hassle it could eliminate.  I have tried to really fit in but the more I buy the more they put on you.  I don't want the hassle!
I look at my account balance and it is loaded with things I did not order: calendars, books, DVD's and more.  The things I did expect in the mail like the NAFC magazine never show up.  Last edition someone mentioned getting two copies--I guess one of those was mine, wonder who got this one?  The club is operating on the old marketing sham that if you send enough of them out, a certain number will respond to avoid the "HASSLE".  I don't know how much longer my wallet can stand these shams.  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

Uncle Tom. I am not sure I would call it a sham just a good marketing ploy. They always plan to write off a certain percent to poeple who don't pay or don't return them( I wonder what happens to all the ones that are returned) we are all members of a great club, one that has great members and have a magazine with useful content but unfortunatly the club is also a buisiness that needs to make money to keep going. If you click at the top of the page where it says gear there is a drop down for the club store.Coming soon september, hopefully we will see this soon as september has come and gone. I for one am looking forward to the chance to get some stuff i actually want or need. it seems like when i do get an offer for something from the club in the mail that I actually want i don't have the money to afford it. So having items there to purchase when it is convenient is a good plan and I am sure the club will turn a profit from it. it would be nice to not have a need for soo many adds in the mag and be able to use that space for more good fishing info.

if you don't want them to send you anything. write to them to stop and tell them in your letter that you are going to stop sending anything that they send to you back and you will not pay for it either. it does work and they do stop sending you items like this after about a year -- thats how long it took them to stop sending me things -- and that does free you up from any obligations from that point on.

i do like the idea of a store........i've order things off the angling edge website before

The club has said the store is coming in Sept. What they didn't say is which year! Tom

I still haven't got around to send the calendar back just yet. I might keep it and see how long it takes the club to stop sending me invoices.
I like the member store idea. Should we start a pool to see what year it finally makes its debut?

I think the US Posat Law says if you recieve unsolicited materials, you can legally keep it without returning the materials and yoy are under no obligations to pay for them. Thats why they don't track you down if you don't pay... they can't!
