I am a novice fisherman that in the past has been directed to fish heavily weeded areas
to catch some big muskie.  The problem was that no matter what I through into that area
it hung up.  The weeds looked thick enough to walk across, but supposed house some
large fish.  Was I wrong in fishing the area to begin with, or was there a way to penetrate
the weeds and keep my lure?

    Welcome to the Forums

I don't know who has told you that...but IMHO...heavy slop is NOT a muskie's favorite place....although it CAN be a part of their territory.

Can you at least tell us what state you are in?

You don't fish it like you fish for bass. You want to work the deep water next to the heavy weeds. If you've got a sharp drop to excess of 20+ feet then it's a good spot to work through. I've seen big muskies sunning and cruising through those open water next to the weedlines, but could never get any of them to bite.
