Frogs can be fished all year long in grassy or wooded area docks, fence lines etc. to frog fish you need a rod with heavy backbone relatively stiff. wait till you feel pressure before you swing on a frog bite. most people get excited by the splash and commotion and pull the bait right out of their mouth. Try the yum money frogs. hornytoads have a poor hook up ratio. be patient almost 1 and 3 dont get hooked up, but the ones that do are usually pretty decent fish. Spring is coming the best time to fish frogs in shallow water. good luck. Scott. |

When to use? Well if you hear frogs at night, the time of year is there to use them. Where? Around grassy areas and lily pads, or coming off small river banks into the water and having it scurry across. I use the Zoom (tree frog) and Rage tail (toad) frogs. Those colors are indigenous to my neck of the woods and have had good luck. I prefer to use 3/0 or 5/0 EWG hooks and rig them weightless texas-rig style making sure to keep the tip of the hooks securely tucked away in the back of the frog to keep the snags down. They are heavy enough even without weights to cast without any issues. Plus this gives them a more natural look above and below the water line. Cheers.. |

I like to use the new spro frogs there a little pricey but i like those i have alot of luck witht them because they have like a skirt for legs so the legs are free flowing and they just came out with a popper body i would like to try but i have the most luck with those and they can be fished in all coer and they sit on top like a jitter bug and you can work them in many different ways you can walk the dog or slow jerks |

and you dont need to wait more than a couple secs to set the hook on a frog because a bass will only hang on to the bait for too long its all about feel i wait till he fully submerges the frog before setting the hook |

Live frogs? Do you have to work them, or let them swim along on their own? |

I'd rather use an artificial toad. |

@ vweeks...Live frogs?? I guess.......if you need to put food on the table...But seriously...Live frogs?? Everyone knows that live bait will almost always outfish artificial baits and lures...thats why it's not allowed in any of the B.A.S.S and FLW tournaments. Using live bait for bass fishing kinda takes the sport out of it. Trying to get a bass to bite your artificial is much more challenging and rewarding when you hook up on a bass that just slammed that spinner bait, or in this case a frog. I like to use Z-man pro frogz...they have great action...and their made out of the Z-man elastics...Just fish them where frogs are present...Lilly pads are a good indication...Save a frog and buy a Z-ma...lol |

Haha, had to think about it for a second, now it makes PERFECT sense. Live bait does outfish artificial lures. But I just remember this one time I was out on the lake and while I was using live minnows, my friend was filling the bass on a Zoom Jerkbait. But then again sometimes they want live, sometimes they dont. |
