Well I finally made it to my mail box yesterday and found my new issue of North American fisherman. I always go to the member Photo's section first but the second article I read was by Dr Scram on fishing myths debunked. I thought the article was very interesting and entertaining. Now I have heard a few of these myths before but to have the explanation as to why certain things are just not so was a nice touch. What did everyone else think? Also the member story on how to make extended fishing trips less costly was nice( I cannot remember the members name and I do not have the mag here at work right now). More of these member articles would be nice.

Can't really say!  I haven't gotten my magazine, yet.  Probably got mixed up in changing from Life Member to Trophy Life Member.  I did get my 2011 calendar which in my opinion is one of the nicer calendars I have owned.  I try to pay for items on my account as they are posted but usually get items 2 to 4 weeks later with another invoice.  Why do we do such a good job of asking for payments and such a poor job of getting out what has been paid for?  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

I remember when they debunked the myth of that giant pike caught in Rainy Lake.

We have a sort of local myth. The myth of giant catfish and sturgeons that live above Taylor's Falls Dam. Fish so big that divers were actually afraid of being swallowed by the shear size of these fishe's mouths. It's a good story to keep people off of resevoir. The counter story is that nobody ever catches any fish of worthy size there. They've all been small. Well I've can confirm that part pretty much. I've only caught mostly small fishes there, but I'm sure It's just bad timing for me.

My magazine is officially late...This wouldn't be the first late October/November issue for me. I'm used to seeing it by mid September.

For all of you that got the article, you'll know what I'm talking about.

I never knew there were people that misinformed people out there.  Pike loosing their teeth in the winter!   I wonder if those people have ever seen pictures of monster pike that were caught through the ice.

i've heard that one before.........it's because a pikes mouth seems to bleed around the teeth in late jan. and early feb.. that is why people think they loose their teeth. and that seems to happen during the part of the winter that most guys have a problem with catching pike throu the ice. mainly because they are not fishing deep enough or shallow enough.

This teeth bleeding phenomena I've seen is also shared by largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and catfish. I'm thinking it may depend on their foraging. These smallmouth bass and largemouth bass that are after crayfish tend to have sores along their lips as well like the aquariumed wild fish that swims into glass constantly. Teeth are often dulled or deformed. These pikes that exhibit this may be more of the shallow water structure orientated habitat variety. Maybe they were after crayfish as well. I don't normally target pikes during the months from November onward into the winter ice fishing season. The open water pikes that I've caught that are feeding on open water baitfish have not shown this bleeding or dull teeth phenomenon. They have always shown very sharp teeth like they've never been used. Finally catfish that feed on mussels, tend to have heavily deformed teeth as well. I generally don't look to see this bleeding around their teeth, but I have on occassion notice some very similar characterisitic in some late spring channel catfish.
