I just moved back to the NW after living in the south for 11 years. I have fly fished for largemouth bass and blue gills/ shell crackers and red ears. I would love to be able to try my luck at trout on the fly. Trouble is I just moved here and don't the first thing about the hatches or for that matter fly fishing. Its real easy to catch warm water fish. Popping bug and your good to go. It would be great to meet someone that could show me the ropes. I know it late in the year but does the fishing stop in the winter?

Well, I know virtually nothing about fly fishing but the fishing doesn't stop- just the season. The lower lake fishing season ends the end of the month but there ARE some lakes open year-round. Just look through the regs and they'll show you. There may be some Alpine lakes open all year but I don't know. You might try going to the Dept. of Fish and Game- http://wdfw.wa.gov
you might find more information there. Another site that might be helpful is: http://www.washingtonlakes.com
Where are you located? I know of three lower lakes that are open all year- Kitsap and Long Lake in Kitsap Co. and American Lake near Tacoma.
Hope this helps you and good luck!

Not sure where you live but Pass lake near Dcepstion Pass is open year round and is fly fishing only. Huge browns, bowes and triploids. Check out walakes.com lot of good info. No Glen I live in Oak Harbor you know Whidbey Island. I wish I lived in eastern Wa but for now I stuck here. Like I said I'm not a fly fisherman but I do a lot of bass fishing around here and in eastern wa. It's too bad all the lakes are getting ready to close I wanted to fish McIntosh out of Yelm, herd there sre some good bass in it. Next year I will my son lives in Yelm. And we have some great lakes up here also Whatcom, Big Lake, Beaver and a few others. If you ever get a chance to get up this way check out our local lakes.
