I was reading a list of state records for Tennessee and I saw something that caught my eye. At the bottom of the list it mentioned the Atlantic Needlefish, a species I had never heard of before. Here the link to the Fishbase webpage about these fish: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spe...Needlefish From what I saw in the picture, they look a bit like the (saltwater) Atlantic Garfish. Atlantic Needlefish (Google Images) Garfish (Google Images) Has anyone ever caught an Atlantic Needlefish before and if so, where and with what lure or bait?

i have gotton some bites from them but never caught one they usualy go for shrimp but they are very hard to hook and if you move the bait A DROP they WILL get spooked so i prefer a bobber size 10 hook wait till it acualy eats the bait to set the hook. i usualy see them in canals and estuaries (salt water)

I used to catch them from the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier in Deerfield Beach Florida. The best bet for catching them is the frayed rope lure as used for gar fishing. Check the gar forum for my post on how to make this lure. These are strictly salt water fish so I don't know what it was doing in stats concerning fishing in Tennessee!
