I have had my house on the market for five months without so much as a wink or a prayer.  Three weeks ago a family made our first and only offer, and after some give & take a final sale price was reached.

Our new home will be about half the size of our current one which is making for some interesting decisions deciding what we will take with us.  The week before last we spent several days working with our builder making decisions as to what options we wanted, the cabinets, lighting, flooring, etc...You get the picture...lol!  This coming Monday there will be an inspection of my place and Tuesday will bring an appraisel of the property for the bank...Karen & I are working at a steady pace for packing, making sure all my fishing tackle is secure!   Our new home will be in an retirement community for seniors!

All our stuff is being handled by a local moving company and they will keep it in storage while our new home is being built.  Our oldest daughter has a vacant appartment for us to stay in while all this goes on!  This will take four months...We will sign agreement papers on the 19th of November with closing in mid December.  We hope to be in our new home by early to mid March!

So as we continue to pack and make ready I will post some thoughts and I am sure some frustration in this thread...It really hurt me to pack up all my spoon making and other workbench stuff...  There will be some times when I won't be posting as I transition to the appartment and then to the new home...I'll go nuts!

Moving is such a royal pain and you have probobly found that you have "collected" tons of stuff while you were in your old home. So, good luck with your choices and enjoy your new home (when it is ready).

Today I mowed the lawn and mulched leaves for the last time...Tomorrow I'll tear-down the tractor and clean the deck and bagger system. It looks like the new owners are going to buy this from me.  Geez, I won't even have a tractor ta ride around on  ...Karen has just told me that we need to find new homes for our TVs because we will be getting new ones. And on top of all this I must spend the day hauling stuff to the church tomorrow for the Bazaar which will be this Saturday...lol!  No rest for us retired folks...Let that be a lesson to all you young pups, never retire! lol!   While mowing I did notice that the deer are wackin' my trees with their antlers...no respect!   I won't see stuff like this at the new place...

So today Karen and I take a truck load of stuff over to the church for the Bazaar. We spend a few moments talking with Pastor Charlie and then head back home to do more packing and have a quick lunch before the inspector arrives...Little did we know that the potential new owners would also be coming! Well the inspector arrived and set himself to his job and Karen and I did our best to answer any questions that he had. About an hour later a couple in their mid 50s arrived and we introduced oueselves...Wow! What nice folks! We talked and talked, much to the amusment of the inspector, and really got to know each other (the realitors didn't want us talking to each other, afraid that we might ruin the sale). It turns out that what attracted us to this location is the same thing that attracted them; peace & quiet, beautiful views and no traffic to speak of!   Their hobbies turned out to be very similar to ours and before you know it they were sitting down at the table sharing a cup of coffee. Karen asked if they had a church where they worshiped and they said not really but that they were open to suggestions...They will join us this Sunday for worship!

Ya know, Karen and I were praying for the house to sell, that leaving this area would not be to difficult for us to handle and enlighten us as to the new direction that He might have us take. We feel blessed that we have had an opportunity to meet this couple and will be able to worship with them! I must say that we are truly amaized at how this day turned out...lol!

Brian, you are correct when you say that our plate is full! We have lived here for 18 years...This is a house that is completely custom, designed by us...our heart & soul went into this project because ya see, this was to be our last home on earth...Which just goes to show ya that nothing ever stays the same, especially when you have control of nothing! lol!

Ray, we are moving 18 miles to the north and slightly east, 5 miles outside Lebanon, Pa. It is a beautiful valley but we will be packed in like sardens, big change for us! Our new home will be a single story, no basement, 3 bedrooms, great room, dinning room, kitchen, breakfast nook, laundry, two bath, screened in porch and two car garage (1700 sq. ft.) which is about half the size of our current house.

Tomorrow morning I have bible study then it's off to the scout office to pay for popcorn sales and then back home to finish the tractor...Whew!

Karen and I spent the morning loading the truck with more stuff for the Bazaar...  A quick run to the store for more tape and back home for some lunch!   We continued with our packing intil the appraiser showed up to do his thing for the bank.  Our plans for the rest of the day include a short afternoon nap, load Karen's Explorer with craft items for the Bazaar (these are items that she made), a quick fish dinner  and then I will be on my way to a Cub Pack meeting, after which I will set-up the tables for the Bazaar!   I should be back at home by ten...

I am very close to packing the puter and all my fishing gear and fly making / lure making stuff is packed...  I'll remove the reels from the rods tomorrow and store the rods in the boat.  I'll box-up the reels and put them with the rest of my tackle.   I am glad that I kept all the original boxes for my reels!

Holy mackerel Pete! I just found this thread and quickly read through it. Moving can be either traumatic or exciting - or both at the same time. Good luck with it and I hope there isn't much grief for you and Karen.
