    Just wanted to share this with ya all. Recently i went to an estate sale where i  found an old Johnson reel. It is a Johnson model 80,still in oiriginal box,doesnt look like it has eve3r beenb used. it also has the sales slip,from 1955 and cost $12.50   . Thanks for reading,  cap

    cap I think you may have something there if you keep it in the box and keep the sales slip. May or maynot be worth a lot of money. You lucky son of gun.

    It seems like to me that $12.50 back in 1955 was some decent money for a reel. I'm not totally sure, I wasn't there. If I were you, I would hop on a currency converter or something and see how much $12.50 in 1955 money is equal to today, help you get an idea of how much the reel would cost today and maybe figure out the quality of the reel, like if it was a really serious reel or more along the lines of a cheapie Shakespeare today. (Not saying Shakespeares aren't good reels, but most of 'em come pretty cheap) Good luck

    don't look like there selling for much on ebay but there not done with the bidding as of yet . and it is usually the last few mins that people bid .

    For a bit of perspective, $12.50 in 1955 would fill the average car's gas tank at least twice or buy enough groceries to feed a family of 4 for about a week or a little better! Tom

    Not sure what it's worth, but them are some dandy reels. I have two about the same age as yours. I love using mine for bank sets when catfishing. They are tougher than nails.
